The Memorial Day has come and gone and so have all the extra boats on the water. It is more difficult to fish during these busy holidays. Uneducated (with the Everglades) anglers do not realize the pressure they place on the species who call the Everglades home. A few tips to help make your time on the water more productive.
1. Be mindful of other people fishing. When crossing the areas around a fisherman be mindful that you may be spooking the fish around them.
2. Know before you go! Be mindful of the tides as they will determine your trip due to areas being too shallow to cross at low tide.
3. Bring lots of water and snacks. Beer is great but it is not water and dehydrates the body quick.
4. Turtle grass takes 20+ years to recover from a prop scarring. Turtle grass is the most precious nursery we have along side with the reef! Manatee need it and many breeding fish depend on it. Trim up your motors to avoid the scarring.
5. Bring chum, it helps to get the fish in a frenzy.
These are just a few suggestions to help you enjoy your trip without harming the most beautiful and unique ecosystem in the world!
